Some Spanish foods have distinctive qualities that differentiate them from others of the same typology. In order to exhibit marks about these qualities, products of differentiated quality must meet a number of requirements. These requirements, which will be described below, are associated with each type of product and refer to the geographical area of production and/or special processing characteristics. Only products that meet these requirements may display their corresponding marking labels on their labeling. The mark is awarded and supervised by a control body, which records the basic data (registered companies, tons marketed … etc) and controls compliance with the requirements.
